What is the Commitment?
It’s a public promise to help end poverty stigma. Signing means standing with others across Scotland who believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, free from judgement or blame.

Our Principles
The Commitment is built on three principles that guide how we treat people, design services, and challenge poverty stigma.
Our principles are broken down below.
Dignity
-
Treat every person with respect and empathy.
-
Communicate in ways that are non-judgmental.
-
Value people’s experiences and perspectives.
Equality
-
Challenge unfair treatment and discrimination.
-
Remove barriers that stop people accessing support.
-
Advocate for policies that reduce poverty and inequality.
Inclusion
-
Actively listen to lived experience.
-
Create safe, welcoming, and supportive spaces.
-
Involve families and communities in co-designing services.
Our Shared Vision
Families also told us what dignity looks like.
They want services and communities that:
Treat people with respect and compassion.
Listen and act, rather than judge or dismiss.
Offer welcoming spaces where people feel at home.
Build trust through patience, warmth, and genuine support.
